Privacy

The short version: Nook has no server, so there is nowhere for your files to go.

What Nook reads

The names, types, sizes and dates of the files in the folders you point it at, and — for PDFs, images and text files — what’s inside them. Reading a scanned PDF means rendering the page and running text recognition on it. All of that happens on your Mac, using a model that ships as part of macOS. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no service to upload it to.

What leaves your Mac

Two things, ever:

What Nook does not collect

What Lemon Squeezy holds

If you buy Nook, the payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record. They hold your email address and billing details in order to charge you, send your key and issue your invoice, under their privacy policy. I never see your card details. I can see the email address you bought with, which is how I answer your support mail.

Permissions Nook asks for

Access to the folders you choose — Downloads and Desktop by default. macOS asks you directly; Nook can’t grant itself anything. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders, and Nook will keep running, just with nothing to look at.
